The Impact of the New Tax Law on Small Businesses

This presentation, led by Martin House member Bryan Stern, is the first in a series.  It will help small business owners understand key tax law changes that may affect their 2018 business tax returns so that they can plan ahead before year end.

Some of the topics to be covered include

  • 2018 business tax rates for the sole proprietor, LLC, corporation, and partnership

  • Changes in the deductibility of meals, travel, and entertainment expenses

  • 20% qualified business income deduction for pass-through entities and who qualifies for it

  • Net operating loss (NOL) deduction limitations

The presentation may also touch on changes in business interest expense deductions, depreciation, like kind exchanges, and audit rules.

  • Using third-party services and technology to streamline daily operations
